Porto Astro

Porto Astro from the deck of the Morning Star sailing yacht
Over the weekend I had another taste of what God is doing in Greece when visiting HM's base of operations for its camp and maritime ministries at Porto Astro.

Porto Astro is a rugged 13.5 acre piece of land along the coastline of a remote bay about two hours north of Athens. Over the years the site has developed as a sports camp and retreat center where refugees learn the love of Christ and where church groups from Greece and other countries come for evangelistic outreach and disciple-building activities.

Six weeks ago at a camp for refugee men, five Muslim men were baptized and shared their stories of coming to Christ with the other refugees. I met one of the five, a young man named Javad, at Operation Joshua, and I was excited to see him again at Porto Astro, where he had returned to learn more about Christ.

While at Porto Astro I help out with meal preparations and clean up for a camp for young people from Germany. Hamza, an Albanian man who's served the Lord fulltime at Porto Astro for eleven years, even turned me loose on the outdoor grill where I prepared the pork and pita for souvlaki sandwhiches. It was a joy to serve in that small way along side men and women from many countries who've answered God's call to serve Him in the gospel in Greece.

In February Johnathan Macris posted this video about the ministry at Porto Astro...
